Celebrating the Unseen, Unsung Heroes
November is National Caregiver Month. The observance offers an opportunity for us to pause and think about the challenges and rewards of family caregiving and to celebrate the unseen, unsung heroes among us.
Steps You Should Take Before a Crisis
My mom recently had a hospital stay. When Dad and I took her to the hospital, we were in crisis mode. You would have thought my dad was quite lucky, since he had someone by his side who gives advice to caregivers every day. Well, guess what? Although I am a caregiver options counselor at CICOA, as a daughter that day, I realized that I should have been taking the advice I give to other caregivers.
Save Room for Fun at the Holiday Table

Hoover Family Foundation Grant to Prevent Falls Among Seniors
Preventing falls among low-income older adults is the goal of a $10,000 grant by the Hoover Family Foundation, which was awarded in October to CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions. With the grant, CICOA will provide home accessibility modifications for low-income seniors through its Safe at Home service.
CICOA Supports National Campaign to Address Isolation and Loneliness in Older Adults
One in five adults over age 50 are affected by isolation, a problem that has been associated with higher rates of chronic disease, depression, dementia and death. At a time of the year when family and friends often gather together, this topic is the focus of a national campaign led by the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a), in collaboration with the AARP Foundation, to raise awareness of the problem of social isolation and loneliness in older Americans.
