Meals & More Vouchers Available to Seniors at Four Central Indiana Hospitals
POSTED: April 29, 2013
Seniors can enjoy a healthy, hot meal at an affordable price at Community Hospital East, Hancock Regional Hospital, Hendricks Regional Health and IU Health Morgan Hospital thanks to a voucher program coordinated by the hospitals and CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions.
The vouchers are a part of CICOA’s Meals & More program, which also provides home-delivered meals and lunch at 28 neighborhood locations. The voucher program extends Meals & More by offering healthy meal options at different locations, flexible meal times and increased socialization opportunities for seniors.
“Seniors often use the meal vouchers when they come to the hospital to visit their physician or on the weekends when our senior center is closed,” said Martha Rardin, director of nutrition and dietetics at Hendricks Regional Health. “Eating well in the senior years is enhanced with our Meals & More program, and we hope more seniors will take advantage of this opportunity.”
Seniors who are 60 and older and their spouses are eligible for the meal voucher program, regardless of income. For a suggested $3 donation per meal, seniors can receive from four to eight vouchers per month, depending on the location. Seniors mail their donation directly to CICOA and then pick up their vouchers at the designated location and hours for each hospital. The vouchers may be used for select menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner during regular cafeteria hours.
Martinsville resident Marshall Gregson, 77, has been using vouchers at IU Morgan Health Hospital for about a year, often meeting up with friends from the local senior center. Gregson says his favorite menu items are meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans.
“For $3, you can’t get the same quality meal anywhere else that you can get at the hospital,” Gregson said.
