CICOA Launches Website for Caregiver Support Program and Video Series
POSTED: January 9, 2018
Because CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions understands that being a family caregiver can be isolating and stressful, it is making available its popular video series, CareAware: Help and Hope for Family Caregivers, and additional online resources on a new website, www.careawarejourney.org.
On the site, visitors will find the six-part CareAware video series and workbook, small group leader resources, video transcripts, a caregiver blog and more.
CICOA created the CareAware video series in 2016 as a way for faith-based and other organizations to host caregiver workshops. Until now, the series has been available on the cicoa.org website with a login. Videos and other information are now easily accessible, without requiring registration or a login.
“After seeing how much CareAware was helping caregivers, we wanted to make that information more accessible to the public,” said Orion Bell, CICOA president and CEO. “The website allows us to elevate the visibility of the successful video series and bring more resources to caregivers.”
Hoosiers provide more than 780 million hours of caregiving each year for loved one. While caregiving can be rewarding, it’s also presents challenges. In a 2015 survey of Central Indiana caregivers, 42 percent admit to feeling overwhelmed, 44 percent feel lonely, and 61 percent report changes in their personal health as a result of being a caregiver.
Careawarejourney.org provides resources to help and give caregivers tips on how to overcome some of the most common challenges. CICOA will continue to add information and resources to help its community of caregivers.
The website was made possible through a grant from the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
