Jean Griswold Foundation Awards $1,000 Grant to CICOA

POSTED: February 20, 2019

CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions has received a grant of $1,000 from the Jean Griswold Foundation, a private charity established in 2010 by Griswold Home Care to further the company’s belief that care for the elderly and disabled should be available to all and not just the privileged few.

Jean Griswold Foundation’s vision is a future in which all seniors, including those with limited financial means, will have the opportunity to age with dignity in the comfort of their own homes. They carry out this vision in the communities they serve by awarding grants for select community programs such as CICOA, which help people age in place who otherwise could not afford to do so. Donations from Griswold Home Care franchisees, friends and family have allowed the Foundation, now in its sixth year of awarding grants, to give to 206 nonprofit organizations across the nation.

The Foundation gives awards to those agencies best aligned with its funding priorities and chose CICOA because of its mission to help low-income individuals over age 60 remain in an environment of their choosing. CICOA has a long history of providing outstanding home safety and accessibility modifications, and is the only organization in Central Indiana targeting these services for the low-income senior community.

CICOA’s grant will support the Safe at Home program, to provide home safety and accessibility modifications to prevent seniors from falling. Modifications provided by Safe at Home include: adding grab bars, adding or repairing handrails in stairwells, leveling uneven floors, repairing faulty steps, installing wheelchair ramps, replacing bathtubs with roll-in showers or tub cut-outs, and raising toilets.
