The Value of Sponsorship: CNO Gives Back to CICOA

POSTED: August 14, 2019

Corporate sponsorships are immensely impactful in supporting CICOA’s mission and programs. They provide funding, support events and spread awareness. Sponsorships are also mutually beneficial: By giving money to CICOA, companies have a chance to attract new customers and make a significant difference in their communities.

CNO Financial Group’s recent gift of $10,000 to CICOA is a perfect example of how company sponsorship can support local causes.

Good things happen when companies recognize employee volunteers

CNO is a holding company for multiple national life and health insurance companies that serve middle-income Americans and retirees. Each year, CNO invests in a Giving Back Volunteer fo the Year Award, an award honoring a staff member’s volunteer involvement. CNO also provides the award winner with $10,000 to donate to a non-profit of their choice. This year Gail Mitchell, vice president of underwriting, received the award and directed the $10,000 gift to CICOA.

Mitchell is highly involved in supporting CICOA’s mission in the Indianapolis area. She serves as the vice chair of the Foundation Board of Trustees and also has served as the chair for the organization’s annual fundraising breakfast. Additionally, Mitchell is a member of CICOA’s philanthropic task force, which raises funds for programs and plans future campaigns.

“Gail’s business knowledge and experience with nonprofit organizations has proven invaluable in directing the activities of the foundation board and the committees she serves on,” said Mary Durell, interim CEO and chief operating officer of CICOA. “Her commitment is clearly demonstrated in the passion, expertise and personal contributions she makes to advance CICOA’s mission.”

Sponsorship expands CICOA’s community impact

CNO’s Volunteer of the Year Award is impactful in that it simultaneously supports community programs and services while celebrating employees who are active volunteers. Both of those types of giving – sponsorships and volunteering – are integral to the growth and success of CICOA, which often can leverage a local match to access additional state and federal dollars.

Other impactful ways for companies to give back include sponsoring events, offering gift matching programs for employees, and encouraging employees to participate in volunteer events as a team-building exercise. For example, CICOA’s Safe at Home event on Sept. 28 is a great opportunity for sponsorship or employee involvement. It’s a half-day of service providing home safety and accessibility modifications and yard cleanup to enhance mobility, promote independence, and prevent falls among older adults and people with disabilities.

No matter the form, all types of service and sponsorship are important in expanding CICOA’s impact in Marion County and the surrounding areas – and new partnerships are always welcome.

“CICOA has had the privilege of receiving sponsorship and philanthropic support from some of the leading organizations and companies in Central Indiana, and we are always looking for more,” said Vice President of Development Susan Cornacchione. “We offer a variety of ways to partner with CICOA, from connecting with our clients through financial support of our programs, to engaging as volunteers.”

Gifts like CNO Financial Group’s Volunteer Award go a long way in making CICOA’s mission a reality. For more information about donation and sponsorship opportunities, contact Susan Cornacchione at 317-803-6062.
