Dementia Friendly Communities Start With You

Dementia is not a normal part of aging. It is a challenge, but people living with dementia can still have a rich, fulfilling life. With support from their loved ones and community, families and caregivers don't have to navigate this journey alone.

You can be an important advocate for people living with dementia and their family caregivers just by learning more about the condition and taking small steps to make your community more welcoming.

Breaking the Stigma

People often fear a dementia diagnosis. That fear may cause them to delay talking to their family or healthcare team. But, early diagnosis can be lifesaving, and medical treatments are most effective in the early stages.

Until there is a cure, we must rally together to break the stigma of dementia and encourage early conversations with our loved ones. When we show support and understanding, we create welcoming environments for anyone affected by dementia.

After a dementia diagnosis, it is important for that person and their care partner to stay engaged in the community. This helps strengthen brain health and reduces isolation.

Together, we can make a difference. Small actions can help those living with dementia feel included and valued. Here are some dementia friendly programs and trainings that you can do to be a part of this movement.
