CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions has received a grant of $20,000 from the Central Indiana Senior Fund, a CICF fund, to provide home safety and accessibility modifications for low-income senior homeowners through CICOA’s Safe at Home program.
The modifications completed by CICOA’s Safe at Home program enhance mobility, promote independence and prevent falls for older adults and people with disabilities. Seniors are able to live in their homes longer and avoid possible institutionalization.
“I am so pleased and appreciative for the generous donation from the Senior Fund to help keep those at risk of falls safer in their homes,” said Tauhric Brown, CICOA President and CEO. “Our goal is to help Central Indiana residents age-in-place safely by modifying their existing homes for accessibility and fall prevention,” he said. “We appreciate the long-time support from the Central Indiana Senior Fund.”
With funding from the Central Indiana Senior Fund, materials and labor can be purchased to complete home modifications such as installing stairwell handrails, bathroom grab bars, and toilets that meet the height standards of the American Disabilities Act. Modifications also include adding wheelchair ramps, leveling uneven floors, repairing faulty steps, and improving exterior and interior lighting.
CICOA is the only organization in Central Indiana with a program to provide home accessibility modifications for the low-income senior community. The Safe at Home program was established in 2010 and has a successful history of providing outstanding home safety and accessibility modifications, with the goal to enhance the quality of life for seniors and adults with disabilities who desire to age in place. In the last fiscal year, the Safe at Home program served 60 individuals with philanthropic funding. The Central Indiana Senior Fund, a CICF Fund, has supported CICOA’s services and programs since 2004, with grants totaling over $1 million.

The fund not only provides responsive grant-making support, but also endeavors to be strategic and proactive in their funding by identifying and addressing the unique needs of, and opportunities for, the aging population.
