A New Chapter Begins: CICOA Reimagined

Written by

As we embark on a new season at CICOA, I am honored and energized to step into the role of President & CEO. For those who know me, you understand the deep roots I have within this organization and the respect I hold for the work we do every day. For those I have yet to meet, I look forward to connecting with you and sharing CICOA’s vision for a community where all flourish.

My journey with CICOA spans nearly two decades. I started by working directly with individuals and families as a care manager, an experience that gave me a firsthand understanding of the real needs within our community. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute in different ways, from helping people navigate their care options to directing our Meals & More program. These experiences have shaped my understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Most recently, as the organization’s first chief compliance officer, I focused on building quality and integrity – principles that will continue to guide our path forward.

My connection to CICOA’s mission is not just professional; it’s deeply personal. Growing up in Indianapolis, I saw how important community support can be in helping individuals and families manage their everyday life. Later, I experienced this firsthand as a caregiver for my own mother. She was a client of this very organization and, thanks to the support she received, was able to live comfortably in her own home well into her nineties.

That journey as a caregiver – navigating doctor’s appointments, understanding different care options, and simply wanting the best for someone I loved – gave me a deep empathy for the families we serve. It reinforced the importance of having someone in your corner, providing guidance and support. It’s not always easy and knowing there are resources available can make all the difference. My mother’s ability to remain at home, surrounded by familiar comforts, was a testament to the power of the support we provide here at CICOA. It’s a story that fuels my dedication to our mission and informs my approach to leadership every day.

Leading an area agency on aging at this significant moment in time comes with both challenges and incredible opportunities to grow and better serve our community. I believe in clear communication, thoughtful action, and empowering the talented and dedicated team around me. I am eager to work alongside our staff, volunteers, partners, and the individuals and families we support, building on the strong legacy of the past 50 years.

As we look to the future, guided by our new strategic plan, “CICOA Reimagined,” we have identified five major growth opportunities that will shape our work in the coming year and beyond. These areas will allow us to innovate, expand our reach and deepen our impact, ensuring we continue to be a vital resource for our community.

  1. Bridging the Gaps through Community Health Workers
  2. Empowering Caregivers with Comprehensive Support
  3. Building Independence with Home Accessibility Modifications
  4. Expanding Access through Private Pay Services
  5. Investing in Philanthropy

In this blog over the next few months, I will introduce you to each of these opportunities, sharing our vision and how we plan to bring them to life. As we embark on this new chapter, I look forward to what we can achieve together. If you share our vision for a stronger, more supportive community and are interested in exploring ways to partner and bring “CICOA Reimagined” to life, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can contact me directly by sending a message here. I look forward to hearing from you and working collaboratively to build a brighter future for those we serve.
