Nearly 90 percent of people age 65 and older say they want to remain in their current home for the rest of their lives. The challenge is that, often, their homes are not designed to accommodate the needs of older adults or people with disabilities. Additionally, each year one in three older adults falls, resulting in injuries that may make it difficult for the individual to continue living independently.
For many older adults and people with disabilities, home accessibility modifications are the key to successfully aging in place and maintaining independence.
Several funding sources are available–based on eligibility criteria–to assist homeowners and renters* age 60 and over or persons of any age with a disability with the cost of home modifications.
