Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam Honored with CICOA Outstanding Woman of Service Award

Written by

CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions awarded new Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam with its inaugural Outstanding Woman of Service Award for her commitment to protect affordable neighborhoods in the city and her advocacy for making Carmel a place where older adults can thrive at home.

The desire of most older adults is to live independently in their own homes as they age. Called “aging in place,” this often requires careful planning and consideration of home and community supports as older adults find they need more care at home. Rising housing costs also have a significant impact on the oldest age groups. Without access to safe, affordable housing, seniors are at increased risk for homelessness, isolation, and physical and mental health challenges.

Among her priorities in office, Finkam has named building greater collaboration between community leaders, residents and businesses to address community needs. She envisions Carmel as a place where older adults can thrive at home, making her an ally of CICOA’s vision for Central Indiana as a place where older adults and those of any age with a disability flourish.

The Outstanding Woman of Service Award was presented to Mayor Finkam at CICOA’s Galentine’s Day Event on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at PrimeLife Enrichment in Carmel. The event honored women of service and is a fundraiser to provide food-insecure seniors in Central Indiana with access to healthy, nutritious meals.
