Meeting People Where They Are

Written by

We’re all on a journey of some kind.

A journey is defined as traveling from one place to another, usually taking a rather long time. Is your journey through life full of adventure and exploration? Is it a pilgrimage with a purpose? Have you set a course, or are you muddling through?

At CICOA, we meet people wherever they are on their journey. It could be the journey of aging, where they unexpectedly need help for the basics of food, transportation or home repairs. Some are on the journey of caregiving for a family member with a disability. CICOA strives to be a friend, guide, and traveling companion for each client’s journey.

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” is a well-known adage from Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu.

For CICOA’s clients, finding solutions to their problems or navigating the complex system of programs like Medicare or Medicaid can seem like a journey of a thousand miles. That first step might be the hardest. When they don’t know where to start, CICOA can help, thanks to you.

“A journey is best measured in friends, rather than miles,” observed travel writer Tim Cahill.

As with any journey, who you travel with can be more important than the destination. When I think about the past fiscal year (July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018), it is clear to me that you have a passion for helping people and want to extend your caring hand to them on their journey. Whether you give financially or volunteer or advocate, you are great friend. Thank you for walking alongside our clients.

I’m so grateful for you, and honored that you’ve joined us on this journey. Thank you for the impact that you make possible. We simply cannot do this great work without you!
