UWCI Grant Provides Access to Food, Transportation, Housing

Written by

United Way of Central Indiana has awarded a Basic Needs Fund grant of $360,000 to CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions. United Way funding will help thousands of CICOA clients in Central Indiana gain access to healthy food, transportation and safe housing.

This critical funding supports essential elements of CICOA’s work and ensures that an adequate safety net exists for vulnerable older adults and people with disabilities.

“We are honored and grateful for United Way’s continued trust and investment in CICOA to ensure that seniors and people with disabilities can live with the greatest possible independence, dignity and quality of life,” said CICOA President and CEO Tauhric Brown.

CICOA is one of 60 organizations receiving United Way Basic Needs Fund grants totaling $12.45 million to help our community’s most vulnerable members.

A committee of 17 people – United Way board members, staff and community volunteers – reviewed applications and selected the recipients and grant amounts, which range from $45,000 to $360,000. Organizations receiving funding are accredited with United Way of Central Indiana, and grants will be distributed over 18 months.

“These grants are important because they support community organizations that are meeting the most essential needs of our community, like food, housing, transportation and health,” said Sara VanSlambrook, United Way’s chief impact officer.
